The semester focused heavily on analyzing the way that each student thinks and designs as well as reading multiple research and philosophical pieces. This helped students understand the brain and the way that humans think compared to machine learning + artificial intelligence .
NETWORKS used : MID JOURNEY, DALLE, WOMBO, HUGGING FACE
Semantic hierarchies : Nested drawing fictions
Our thesis/narrative approach is focused on 41 Cooper Union. The exterior of the building can be described as rigid with stereotomic qualities, which juxtaposes the interior, which has organic fluid elements/qualities. We intend to extract the spatial + formal qualities of the interior of the building and allow it to seep out and change the exterior form into a new possible output that merges both spaces. The intention of using Richard Arfsten’s sculptural pieces as a domain, is to utilize their compositional elements in order to generate new forms that resemble the exterior of the building. Once generated, we will allow descriptive elements of the interior to shift such compositional forms into new outputs at a mid-level. These new forms will then be layered again with elements of the highly detailed exterior of the building.
“The role of semantic distance in creativity is intuitively embedded in the theory of creativity, through the notion that the farther one moves from a concept in a semantic space, the more novel or creative the new concept will be.”
