Bhutan is a Buddhist kingdom on the eastern border of the Himalayas. It is renowned for its dzongs, which are monasteries and fortresses. The varied scenery includes subtropical plains, towering mountains, and valleys. The Bhutan Chief of Mission Residence development program comprises several sections that all play an important role in the success of this residence among the Bhutanese community. The two key components of the program are the ambassador’s residence and the recreation center for VIP guest residents and staff. The Residence is set in its verdant courtyard, with plenty of space for commemorative occasions. The design of the form is blended with the terrain to improve the country’s beauty and respect the place and its ancient culture. The structure is made using various Bhutanese materials to take advantage of the local resources. The intention is to provide the energy required to function independently from the local power grid. However, a backup energy system would be supplied. Louvered or screen facades, which are justified by reference to sustainability (shading from solar grain), and vernacular shapes are two strategies utilized to build a practical, sustainable ambassador’s residence. The design will consider Bhutan’s climatic conditions, allowing it to resist hot summers and chilly, dry winters. With the programmatic needs, yearly weather conditions, and sustainability in mind, the dwelling will only add to the beauty of this nation for many years to come.
We Seek To Create A Sense Of Duality And Unity Between The Two Separate Nations, Resulting In A Symbiotic Space. We Will Infuse Localized Building Technique And Culture Into A Modern Context To Interweave An Innovative Synthesis Of Technology And Heritage That Is Specific To The Context Of Bhutan. The Form Will Interrogate The Abstract Extension And Transformation Of The Local Topography To Compliment The Organic Nature Of The Landscape.
